Description

Walking into that cold dark room,
My body shaking with the fear and gloom.
Hot tears burning in each blue eye,
Mum held my hand as I began to cry.

You shouldn't have went - you weren't that old,
Your life over while mine about to unfold.
Lying over at the far wall,
I couldn't see you, I wasn't that tall.

I got lifted to see you in state,
I got full view of what had become your fate.
Pale and still and cold as ice,
No longer a woman who was really very nice.

A purple sheet hanging beside my shoulder,
Concealing what I didn't know until I was older.
A cold dark room in which there was more,
Of cold dead bodies lying in store.

Slightly scared but feeling at rest,
I thought going home would be for the best.
But the last words I said to her are so very true,
Goodbye Nana, I'll never forget you.

Then I walked out the door with my head held high,
Didn't back down, didn't start to cry.
Heard the undertaker close the door,
And it hit me then, I wouldn't see her anymore.
