Dan Walker - Invisible Monster

There was a monster under my bed
though I never dared speak of him
for he was impossible to see
and even more so to scare away

sometimes he'd follow me
as I went away to school
though I wouldn't acknowledge his presence
and wondered if the others ignored him too

over the years I would think about him
and question why he chose me
why not some other kid
why wouldn't he go away

one day I came to realize
it wasn't just me at all
that everyone had their own monster
lying in the space beneath their beds
