Damascus explosion kills several
Description
WARNING:THIS EDIT CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT
Bloodstained streets, shattered windows and twisted metal - the aftermath of an explosion in Syria's capital, Damascus, which has left several dead.
State television reported that the explosion in the Maidan district of Damascus was by terrorists.
It was later reported that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber at a traffic signal.
Some opposition activists are claiming the blast was targeting a police station while others say it was an intelligence building.
No accurate figures on the number of dead or wounded have been released.
The latest blast precedes an Arab League meeting in Cairo scheduled for Sunday at which a special committee on Syria is due to debate the situation.
The country has been racked by a 10-month long uprising against President Bashar as-Assad in which the United Nations say more than 5000 people have been killed.
At least 44 people were killed last month by what the Syrian authorities said were two suicide bombings against security buildings in the capital.
