Damage control in Iraq
Description
Damage control in Iraq.
Baghdad residents clear the streets after a wave off attacks across Baghdad have left at least 36 people dead and wounded scores more.
It was the bloodiest day in Iraq since another wave of attacks in March.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
In the Haifa district a car bomb targeting the Iraqi health minister exploded killing two civilians.
(SOUNDBITE) (ARABIC) EYEWITNESS KHUDHIR, SAYING:
"A car bomb went off here at 7.45am, targeting the health minister's convoy. His bodyguards hurt us when they started shooting at people. They broke glass windows and killed the minibus driver and a municipal worker. They continued shooting for more than an hour. We do not know why."
This latest round of attacks comes as amid heightened tension between Shi'ites, Sunnis and Kurds in the fragile coalition government.
The violence is raising fears of a return to the sectarian violence that pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war a few years ago.
