Dakota Ellerton - Marijuana Body Spray

She looked through him,
as if he were not there.
She awkwardly rubbed his arm,
as if they were strangers and she gave pity.
She dropped her head to his shoulder,
pretending not to cry.
He whispered in her ear,
‘I need you, you know I can’t do this without you’.
Each word pierced her chest,
plunging in through to her heart.
She gasped in between tears,
it’s started.
She was in the middle of a relapse.
Feeling her body break all over again,
every insecurity became embraced.
Her eyes began to bleed,
such sorrow poured from her soul.
If only he’d known,
if only he’d realized.
He gentley held her wrist,
‘first thing’s first’ he stated.
She tugged her arm,
trying to squirm away.
’ It’s fine, it’s fine.’
He grabbed her arm,
pushing her back.
He slowly peeled back the fabric.
‘Are they new’,
he asked over and over.
If it’s so obvious,
why does he need to ask.
For the first time,
he’d made her insecure, embarassed.
She retreated,
and awkwardly layed beside him.
‘I’m fine’,
she whispered.
He whiped the tears from her eyes,
‘No you’re not’.
