Sleep young darling, those bright eyes must not see
What I really am: the darkness that is me.
Those lips must not devour, only kiss;
That flesh touch not mere happiness, but bliss.
Dream not of me, the shadow of my soul
Stalks round about your heart, corruption's goal.
Nations fall and mountains cast their gloom
About my mind, and I would fill your room
With notions of depravity and change,
Twist lies into the truth and truth to strange.
Sleep, gentle one, the world must not come in;
In all your wicked dreams there is no sin.
When you awake to set the world free
And I am sleeping-pray, think the same of me.
