Cuba – Yearlong Drought Worsens

Over one million people are relying on trucks to bring in water in the midst of a drought caused by the phenomenon known as “El Niño.” The most intense drought in the last 50 years has already damaged agriculture and is forecast to worsen in the next few months. Among the hardest hit areas is the western province of Pinar del Río, where 70% of the tobacco crops are grown providing employment for thousands.
