Crimean hopes

They are waiting for the referendum in Crimea.

On Sunday, a referendum will be held to decide on whether the region should split from Ukraine and join Russia.

A billboard says: 'Stop Fascism, All to the referendum.'

Citizens tell Reuters it's an easy choice.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) SEVASTOPOL RESIDENT AND CONSTRUCTION WORKER YEVGENY, SAYING:

"Ukraine did not bring us anything good. It is much better in Russia. Life and infrastructure are developing there, so everything will be fine."

Polling stations are preparing for the vote.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) SEVASTOPOL RESIDENT AND DESIGNER ELENA, SAYING:

"I think that our future is with Russia. Of course we can survive on our own, but it is better not to ever forget about our roots. It is better not to forget about those who live, not only to have bread with butter and a sofa, but also those who have a feeling of duty, and about the country which brought us up."
