Description
answer she rose from the bed, she stood in the window
and turned as to look; right through me my heart felt
like lead.
Had I done something wrong had she met
someone else my mind was a torrent of fear, I asked
her again if I'd displeased her somehow but my voice
seemed to fall on deaf ears.
'I know I was late from work late last night, but
there's no reason to treat me this way.' I started to
dress, my hair in a mess I told her the coffee was
made. The telephone rang; 'Mom is that you? ' from the
speaker-phone close to her knee. Her mother explained
the car left the road John died at twenty past three.
I stood there and froze, from my head to my toes,
since work I couldn't remember the trip. I raced to
the door but my hand seemed to claw with a knob I
couldn't quite grip I realised then the dire straits I
was in an angel in front beckoning me. He said 'done is
your life finally comfort your wife then step through
the portal with me.'
My wife so bereft to her mother
she wept then she suddenly stopped and then smiled.
Her mother inquired to the state of her child
'I can smell coffee mom.......I think John just left.'
