Could Johnny Depp play the Time Lord next?

Johnny Depp has been linked to a possible big screen version of Doctor Who.

It follows unconfirmed rumours that screenwriter Russell T. Davies is working on a script for a film about the Time Lord.

Davies has always denied that he is considering moving the iconic character from the small screen into cinemas.

There are separate claims that film industry insiders are keen for Johnny Depp to take on the role.

Doctor Who first began on British television in November 1963 and has run for 31 series so far.

Matt Smith is currently playing the Time Lord, having taken over the role from David Tennant.
