Midnight rolled by half an hour ago
Though it seems so short a time to spend
I know I’ve read these words before
But I’ll read them all once more
So the war inside my head will end

It’s been a while since we’ve had time to play
Please don’t think I’ll forget about you
But the time is so hard to find
When greatness and sinners are locked in my mind
And I know they’ll just tear me in two

But what a sight when I met you
So brimming with joy in that wooded key
Crossing paths with hardly a word
It moved me, how strongly I heard
What your kindness was saying to me;

“Lift the weight off your chest
Under His divine rest,
You’re more than you’re trying to be
I know the path may be steep
But like the one hundredth sheep
You’ll always be someone to me”

The wind chilled us through on that cold autumn day
But what a heart I saw in you
To meet the lost ones where they stand
To hold their unrepentant hands
And beg them turn their hearts anew

We could text the whole darn night away
My burdens weren’t just mine to bear
How many giants could I face
To make me worthy of that place?
Now darling, let me take you there

Whether singing hymns on stage
Or rhyming words on a page
Your love is as deep as the sea
You’ll make this city stand still
And like the tree on the hill
You’ll always be someone to me
