Corbyn backs NFL ‘take a knee’ protest
Description
Jeremy Corbyn has urged Donald Trump to recognise ‘the right of protest’ after the US President called on NFL clubs to ban players from kneeling during the American national anthem. Speaking on the eve of his conference speech to party activists in Brighton, the Labour leader likened the action of players across the NFL, to the iconic ‘black power salute’ by athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos during the medal ceremony at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.
