Constantinos Mitsotakis funeral service

Greeks have paid their respects to former Prime Minister Constantinos Mitsotakis with a service at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens.

The man who ruled Greece from 1990-1993, died this week aged 98 and is to be laid to rest on Thursday in his native Chania in Crete.

Mourners filed past his coffin and gave their thoughts on his passing:“He was an example to us all, a good father and politician with a great sense of honesty and morality,” said one.

Another Athenian said Greece should have listened closer to him while he was alive:

“He will always be part of our history. I have worked with him in the past. He was a man, that if we Greeks had more faith in, we would not be in the situation we find our selves in now.”
