Consider This: Refugees (Part 2) — Comprehensive Refugee Framework Needed
Description
The Home Ministry has announced that all refugees and asylum seekers who have been issued cards by the UN High Commission for Refugees must now register with the Government’s own database Tracking Refugees Information System (TRIS). This comes amid a proposal by the National Security Council to shut down the UNHCR office in Malaysia. What impact will this have on the refugee community here? Melisa Idris speaks to Lilianne Fan, Co-Founder and International Director of Geutanyoe Foundation, which is a regional humanitarian organisation based in KL and Aceh, Indonesia. She’s also the Chair of the Rohingya Working Group at the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network. And Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Refugee Policy.
