Description

Summer often finds me
Underneath a nightime sky,
Beneath revolving constellations
Some time in mid-July.

With binoculars in hand
And star-charts at the ready,
Satellites circle overhead
But the Universe keeps me steady.

A glass of wine in hand,
And my head is swimming slowly,
Through telescopes we’ve seen so much…
So much and yet we’re lonely.

Because we’re now a Global Village
And all secrets are exposed
and there’s no such thing as privacy
and the latest news is old.

And there’s no such thing as company
Because each is a little cell,
Where we spend our time just trying to reach
Each in their separate hell.

So welcome to the Global Village,
and it’s not made of thatch or mud,
and it doesn’t bring people together,
Though many would say that it should.

…So I look into the sky
Where the galaxies collect
And I know they could recycle me
When I feel a deep respect
For everything that gathers there
And all that we don’t know
And I wonder how we came so far
And what we have to show.
