Community Action Group Windsor - Thunder Bay
1 Views • Dec 14, 2015
Description
The Community Action Group (CAG) in the Windsor Blutcher and Picton neighbourhood has continued moving forward in a positive direction after years of steady progress.
The Windsor complex located on Junot Avenue saw the CAG formed as a grassroots based effort of people in the neighbourhood seeking to make things better.
Neighbours have banded together, and put in place programs and events in their neighbourhood that help to unit the residents, and to keep the youth busy.
This effort has been assisted greatly by the use of “Unit 16” in the Windsor – Thunder Bay District Housing has set aside one unit in Windsor, one in Academy, and one in Limbrick that is for community use.
The Unit 16 is the base for the CAG and allows use of the kitchen, and the other rooms for the community to gather for activities and events.
From having their own after-school programs, to breakfast programs and other opportunities, having the unit offers the ability for the neighbourhood to gather and work toward making their neighbourhood better.
In Windsor the Community Action Group has been assisted by a number of different groups. The Regional Multicultural Youth Council, Alpha House, a multitude of volunteers, and members of the community as well have all helped.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit, the CAHEB for art, along with the Guardian Angels have all been part of the growth of this project.
