Colombia’s Development Plan Violates Peace Talks

Colombia’s recently approved development plan is being criticized for violating certain aspects of the ongoing peace talks between the rebels and the government. The plan ignores victims’ rights and the rights of displaced persons, giving huge land grants to multinational corporations instead of to the victims, as envisaged in the peace talks. The development plan will deepen land concentration in favor of big private players. The plan even reduces the time for mining and oil companies to submit applications for government licenses, a move seen as expanding privileges for large corporations.
