Description

Thousands of indigenous people from across Colombia have made a 14-hour journey to the capital city of Bogota, where they are holding demonstrations in defense of their constitutional rights. Their action comes after the November sentencing of indigenous leader Feliciano Valencia, who played an important role in the Minga, an unprecedented mobilization in 2008, when over 40,000 indigenous people marched across the country against the economic and military policies of Alvaro Uribe. The National Indigenous Guard has offered to act as verifiers of an eventual bilateral ceasefire. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota for teleSUR.
