Climax 1980
Description
Early Hours - Brian Ogilvie/Climax JB 1980
Recorded at a concert at the Vancouver Hot Jazz Club in November in 1980. I just found this track in my collection again.
Brian plays his tenor sax.
BRIAN OGILVIE (saxophonist, clarinetist) was born on March 20, 1954 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He passed away on August 24, 2004 after appearing at a jazz festival in Inverness, Scotland. He lived and worked in bands and ensembles in Toronto for many years, even leading his own band with his talented brothers. In 1979 he joined our Toronto based Climax Jazz Band for a few years and and he was the best and most creative reedplayer I had the honour to perform with.
Internationally regarded as ‘a saxophonist and clarinetist of extraordinary ability in the interpretation of early jazz forms’ Ogilvie spent the last several years of his life in the U.S.A., playing with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band from 1992 to 1995. He relocated to New Orleans after leaving the Cullum band, continuing to appear at American and international jazz festivals until his death.
