Clean up begins after superstorm Sandy
Description
The clean-up begins in Ocean City, a day after a massive storm brought severe wind and rain to eastern America.
The Maryland town began a recovery operation on Tuesday (October 30), clearing debris from its streets and repairing infrastructure.
While the storm caused widespread destruction in other areas, Ocean City appeared to have escaped serious onslaught.
On the boardwalk, local business manager Kitty Wyatt was relieved her beach shop wasn't severely hit - although water damage is set to cost the business around $1,000.
SOUNDBITE: KITTY WYATT, OCEAN CITY RESIDENT, MANAGER SASSY BEACH WEAR, SAYING (English):
"We didn't know what we were going to have when we opened the door because we stayed in town and so we basically opened the door, and we saw the water and once we realized that it just came in under the door and not from any leakage on the ceiling, we were like, ok, we can handle this."
While no casualties were reported in Ocean City, at least 40 people have been killed in the storm.
Extensive power outages have also left more than eight million homes without electricity.
