Unhygienic Towels Can Cause Food Poisoning

Researchers from the University of Mauritius have found out that factors such as family size, type of diet, multi-usage of towels, impact the growth of pathogens on kitchen towels. According to the study 49% of the kitchen towels collected in the study had bacterial growth. This percentage increases in number with the increase in family size.The presence of children also added to increase in the bacteria count. Multipurpose usage towels like towels used for wiping utensils, drying hands,etc in the kitchen also had a higher bacterial count. Such towels play a lead role in cross contamination in the kitchen. Food poisoning can also be caused due to such unhygienic towels. Families need to be vigilant to keep their kitchen healthy in all terms.
