Clashes in Bahrain
Description
STORY: Dozens of protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at riot police in the village of Daih, west of capital Manama, on Sunday following a third day of funeral rituals for a 22-year-old activist, Mohammed Abdul-Jalil.
The funeral rally soon turned violent with anti-government protesters throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at the riot police. Riot police responded with tear gas in an attempt to restore order.
The Bahrain opposition complains of discrimination against majority Shi'ites in areas such as employment and public services, and is demanding a constitutional monarchy with a government chosen from within a democratically-elected parliament. The government denies any discrimination.
