Ciaran Quirke - By Night

The sun yawns wearily and
creeps quietly beyond the
western horizon,
And the moon jumps promptly
from the east.

Many stars wink brightly in the sky,
in their secretive and knowing way.

Mere mortal man sleeps softly in peace,
below an immortal sky,
Not caring for the secrets it holds.

Lands and waters lie silent,
pensive in their eternal rest.
Peace descends for a time,
though the celestial powers do not
disengage themselves from earthly workings.
