Christian Bale visits shooting victims

A memorial has continued to grow outside the Colorado movie theatre where 12 people were shot dead.

As the community comes to terms with the tragedy, Christian Bale visited victims recovering in hospital.

The actor stars as Batman in the "The Dark Knight Rises" - the film showing in Aurora when a gunman stormed the cinema.

Local media said Bale spent two and a half hours meeting victims and staff.

Stories of heroism have also continued to emerge.

Allie Young credits her best friend for saving her life.

SOUNDBITE: SHOOTING VICTIM ALLIE YOUNG, SAYING (English):

"She put her fingers over my artery, where my carotid artery was, had exploded, it is where I got shot, and so she puts her fingers over there and then everyone's like, running out."

On Monday (July 30) formal charges are expected to be filed against suspect James Holmes.
