Chris Lane - Inverness Ridge

Who or whom would ever wish
To build their dream home
Upon Inverness ridge.
The last stretch of high ground
Overlooking the river, this river
This battle would be fought and blood spilled for.

The good General commands us to dig.
'Dig fast me boys, for tonight we shall battle
The devil, and in the morning, cross that river'.
Dig we did, we were specialist diggers
Back in 1864 during the civil war.

Sometimes it seems, the war never ended.
Listen to them today and tonight.
In the back yard, the ghosts of the
Fallen dead, rustle with the wind
Murmurs in the river.

For those who came, to build their dream home:
Have little or no interest in the war that was lost fought and won.
Alas and no, thankfully it seems not to matter.
However; most home owners as if by instinct will not allow their
Children to play along Inverness ridge.
