Around the dim candle
light and darkness weave mysterious patterns.
On the unclean, sticky bed
lies sick my four year old sister
- Motionless, speechless
Within her small chest
her lifeforce still vibrates in slow beats
Mother remains seated beside her
like a still statue

With our heads down, silently
we cut newspapers
and make paper sachets
as fast as we can

Haven't had any news from father
for a long, long time
