STORY: Families of the victims of a fire which killed at least 120 in a northern Chinese slaughterhouse fought with police on Wednesday (June 5), and said the official death was too low.

A group of family members blocked the main road in front of the chicken processing factory near Dehui, Jilin Province, and scuffled with dozens of police officers who gathered to control them.

Young men and police officers stumbled into a ditch as they fought, and police officers could be seen kicking and stamping on one of the men.

The protest was dispersed after around 20 minutes, with at least one of the men being taken away by police.

More than 300 workers were in the plant at Dehui on Monday (June 3), when employees said they heard a bang and then saw smoke, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported, adding that an ammonia gas leak could have caused the explosion.

Around 100 managed to escape from the plant, whose gate was lock
