China backs aid for Ukraine

The Chinese Vice Finance Minister says China backs IMF financial support for Ukraine.
He spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank spring meetings in Washington
(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHINESE VICE FINANCE MINISTER ZHU GUANGYAO SAYING:
" We hope this difficult time - particularly in Ukraine - the IMF plays quick and strong action. We support that."
The IMF has pledged to cover Ukraine's financing needs of $27 billion over the next two years.
But the vice finance minister did not offer specific details on just what China would contribute.
