Chicago zoo creates gorilla blood database

Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago is creating the first global database of blood types for captive great apes.

Blood transfusions have transformed medicine over the past century. It began with humans, but now horses, dogs, cats – even ferrets – have been blood-typed so doctors can find a ready supply in an emergency.
