Charles M. Moore - Old Jed

Old Jed lives in a backwoods farm
he does all right he ain't no harm
he buys and sells and lends and shares
everything he needs is on the farm somewhere

O'er the past few years he's heard the news
that the men from the city with the shiny shoes
want to put up masts and dig in lines
old Jed's having a mighty fine time

Down from the city some fat high flyer
thinks the locals are dim but the price gets higher
old Jed knows there's a shilling to be made
better bring your wallet before your spade

With the government grants and various schemes
old Jed doesn't have to plant no seed
gone are the days of long hours on the farm
Jed's on the net with a dish on the barn

Old Jed's building a brand new house
it ain't on the farm and it ain't in the south
Florida it seems is the place to be
old Jed's living in luxury.
