I’m leaving behind my friend
It’s Name: Toxic Shame

Born in poverty
Wishing I didn’t live here
My Home: The Projects

In the Grocery Store:
Losing dignity each time
Our Money: Food Stamps

Throughout my Schooling
Shy girl scared of her Secret-
My Fear: Being Poor

Victim of Abuse
Mama’s insecurities
My Friend: Toxic Shame

What won’t kill me will-
Hopefully make me stronger
Struck at Life’s curve balls

Graduation Day
My Niche was Sixth in my class
So, nervous was I on stage

Despite Achievements
Its toxicity rampant
Poisoning my Soul
