cecil hickman - I Continue to Pray

Lingering within my thoughts of my dismal past,
I wonder how much longer the pain will last.
Though I suffer from many temporal designs,
Happy days flew bye, now I show no signs.
Passing seconds continue quickly, endlessly.
Restoring the minutes of the hours, completely,
I watch as the aimless twirl of smoke rises up.
As my dark rich coffee cools rapidly in its cup,
Time stops for no material blessings in nature.
Just as autumn ends, starting winters adventure.
Life, with its sadness, has its seasons of darkness.
Life, which has delights, as in births, blessedness.
Daylight emerges, bringing spring times beauty.
I myself, have an emergent cry, for a solemn duty.
To cry out for happiness, love, each and everyday,
Though it may not come, I continue to pray.
