Cathy Jackson - Christmas Challenged

Tis the season, so they say
That all should be merry and gay
Carolers sing ‘May your days be bright’
With trees in the windows
And glittering light

Church cantatas, and Christmas plays
There’s only 5 more shopping days
Cable TV with the ‘All Christmas Station’
Plays ‘It’s a wonderful life’,
And ‘Christmas Vacation’

Holiday parties, and Christmas Cheer
‘Out looking In’ year after year
The stores all cry out, ‘only 3 days more’
Come shop til you drop
We’re not shutting our doors

And here I stand, again like last year
Heart beating fast, frozen with fear
My Mind's all a whirl, unable to think
The crowd pushes in
I’m just on the brink

And then I see it, alone on a shelf
Pushed to the back, a lot like myself
It bades me ‘come over’, how can I resist
And the crowd disappears
As I open my fist

My fingers reach out and caress the small toy
My eyes bedazzled, heart filled with joy
I take the toy home, and wrap it up sweetly
For one that I love,
Will love it completely.
