Sprinkles falling onto frozen faces
Don’t fight gravity
And other facts of life
Lost to the opulence of the city
2 am, afraid to sleep

Clicking of stiletto heels beat rhythmically
On the concrete
Scuffed from pacing the same street
Night after night
Scarred soles.

Look at the stars
Search for heaven
Is it burning brighter
Than the embers inside?

Snow melts to slush
Fade to gray

Tip-toe in, stay awake
Thoughts are easier to control than dreams
Purple shadows around purple eyes
Too afraid to sleep
