Caravan Carling Ulf/Carlings 1990
From a jazz club concert in 1990 somewhere in Sweden we see a performance of the Carling Family from Goteborg.
Father Hans introduced his kids from a vey young age to all the different aspects of jazz and each youngster specialized in one or more instruments.
In this clip they feature youngest son Ulf on drums. 11 year old Ulf started in the band when he was six and cymbals had to be placed in such a way that he could reach these easily.
Ulf obviously studied the many great drummers and in this feature in Caravan one notices several of the "licks" obviously learned from drummer Jo Jones.
Ulf certainly has a talent for bringing effects and with a sense of humor as well.
Although the band sounds a bit thin without the bass in the ensemble, the harmonics are fine and delivered with great jazz feeling.
