Cabaline xxx - Purgatory

In my hand I clutch,
a rock.
Some places are smooth,
beneath my fingertips.
Some places are rough,
sharp surfaces cut into my palm.
This rock is my, and your,
everything.

You stand opposite me,
and in your hand you grasp,
a rock.
It is similar to mine,
it is both rough and smooth.
That rock is your, and my,
everything.

We survey the close friend,
and adversary,
standing before us, and before,
the other.
In your eyes my memories flash.
In my mind your voice rings clearly.

We stand, contemplating the other,
then ourself. Ourself, then the other.
Our arms twitch,
with the tremendous weight,
of the rock we carry.
But still we do not move,
we wait.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.....
