Butt implant and capsular contracture

Butt implant surgery improves the size and the appearance of the buttocks area with the help of silicone implants that are placed in the butt cheeks.

As is the case with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with buttock augmentation as well. Capsular contracture is a condition that occurs when a foreign object is inserted into the body. It can occur for breast implants and buttocks implants alike.

Capsular contracture is a condition defined by the occurrence of a thick fibrous scar that forms around the implant to isolate it from the body. It is normal, and in many cases, it doesn’t lead to any further complications. But in some cases, the thickness and hardness of the tissue can cause the implant distortion. If this happens, the patient might experience pain as well as notice an abnormal shape of the butt.

Complications caused by capsular contracture are rare in the case of butt implants. Studies show that capsular contracture occurs less frequently when the implant is placed under the muscle or in the muscles.
However in extraordinary conditions, additional surgical interventions might be required to correct capsular contracture, especially if it is associated with extreme hardening of the area, bleeding, infection, or dislodging of the butt implant. The treatment is to remove the implant, wait six months and excise the fibrous tissue, and insert another implant.
