Bus crash in Manila kills 22

A bus has plunged off an elevated motorway into the street below in central Manila, killing at least 22 people when it landed on its roof.

One eyewitness said the bus had been speeding in poor weather.

The crash caused traffic chaos in the city of 11.5 million people. At least another 20 people were injured, and rushed to hospital.

The Philippines is notorious for its poor traffic safety record and huge traffic jams in its crowded cities. In 2011 nearly 1,900 people were killed in some 85,000 accidents.
