CHAMAN: Pak-Afghan border was reopened for two days at Torkham and Chaman border crossings on Tuesday, ARY News reported.
According to government officials, only those people will be allowed to cross the border areas who posses authentic travel documents.
The trade activities — on the other hand — will remain suspended between the two countries.
A spokesman of Pakistan’s Foreign Office yesterday said that the decision of reopening the border was conveyed to the Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Omar Zakhilwal by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz via telephone.
Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that “Pakistan is currently hosting three million Afghan refugees whereas the killers of our children have created their safe havens across the borders”.
Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that everyone wants Pakistan to be a peaceful country.
It should be noted that Afghan envoy Zakhilwal, in his Facebook status, had stated that he will urge Afghan government to take strict measures if the country does not re-open its borders within two days.
Pak-Afghan border crossings at Torkham and Chaman were closed following the suicide attack at shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh’s city Sehwan which killed at least 81 people and injured dozens of others.
