Description
ISLAMABAD: Frontier Constabulary (FC) on Thursday took the charge of the Parliament’s security on the directives of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, ARY News reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rangers withdrew its personnel from the lower house of the parliament after being provided with the written instructions.
The FC personnel have been mandated to assist police and elite force in providing security at the entry and exit routes of the parliament.
On Oct 2, Interior Minister was denied entry to an accountability court to witness court proceedings against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in three graft references filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The entrance denial irked the interior minister by voicing concern over the orders of denying entry to him as he said: “The Rangers is a force which is subordinate to the interior ministry.”
Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has reportedly sought an explanation from the Punjab Rangers director general over the unilateral withdrawal of security from Parliament House, as well as the deployment at the Federal Judicial Complex during the hearing of references against Nawaz Sharif without being requested.
He had given 72 hours time to Rangers DG to provide an explanation.
After Rangers’ withdrawal, the FC personnel were directed to take charge of the parliament’s security.
