Description
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) suspended removal notification of Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Allah Dino Khawaja by directing him to continue his post while hearing a petition terming his removal as ‘contempt of court’ and violation of the court’s stay order here on Monday.
Arguing on the matter, Barrister Faisal Siddiqui said that the removal of AD Khawaja from his post was contempt of the court as what he said, “The court has passed stay orders earlier then how provincial top cop could be removed from his post.”
The bench queried whether Sindh government had approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan in wake of court’s stay orders in the case before removing IG Sindh from his post.
While talking to ARY News, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator Saeed Ghani said that the party recognizes the court’s supremacy and would not challenge the orders made by the court. Moreover, he termed it a routine affair.
Meanwhile Spokesperson Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Naeem-ul-Haq talking to the news channel, called for strengthening the institutions.
PREVIOUS PETITION IN SINDH HIGH COURT
Earlier, on 28 December last year, the SHC had issued stay orders while hearing a petition filed by seven people including famed pop singer and social worker Shehzad Roy over removal of IG Sindh.
The court had then issued notices to provincial and federal governments.
The petitioners had then pleaded the court that IG Sindh is a respectable person who opposes favourtism in recruitments of police personnel and upholds merit.
SOCIAL ACTIVISTS’ PROTEST
Last day, police had arrested a social campaigner along with many other social activists outside Karachi Press Club for protesting against provincial government’s decision of removing A.D Khawaja and demanding his immediate reinstatement.
