KARACHI: The blazing sun continued to torment the plains of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, creating a record for the highest-ever temperature in Pangur district in seven years.

According to the meteorological department, the ongoing heat spell will persist in most of the plains of the country to test endurance of the people, except for Lahore which is expected to receive light showers today.

Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Fata and some parts of Kashmir have also been forecasted to receive gales and light showers with thunderstorm to their relief from sweltering heat.

Whereas, mercury rose to 43.5 Celsius degrees centigrade in Pangur, a district in western Baluchistan, which the Met office claimed, recorded the highest temperature in its history of seven year.

The temperature in Turbat remained at 53 degrees centigrade for the second consecutive day, the highest ever temperature in its history.

Hyderabad and Jacobabad were reeling under the hottest temperature of 46 degrees centigrade, the highest temperature in the Sindh province, followed by Larkana which blazed at 45.5 degree centigrade.

The maximum temperature in Karachi was recorded 38.2 Celsius degrees centigrade.

Except for Peshawar, Risalpur, and Bannu, experiencing 43, 42 and 41.1 degrees centigrade, respectively, the temperature remained mild in the rest of the Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa province.

The highest temperature in Punjab remained at 45.2 degrees centigrade in Kot Addu, whereas the temperature in Lahore was recorded around 39 degree Celsius.
