WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES: “We will continue to work with our partners in Pakistan and across the region to combat the threat of terrorism,” said John Kirby, a Spokesman for the United States (US) State Department on Tuesday after a terror assault on a police academy in Quetta.

During a press briefing, Kirby said the US was with the people and the government of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

The United States remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to end the scourge of terrorism and extremism, and to promote peace and stability in the region, a US official added.

Kirby also said expressed grief over the precious loss of lives in Quetta while commenting on the newest terrorist attack that killed 62 people in a brutal gun and suicide bomb assault.

“This is a cowardly, lethal, horrific attack. And sadly, it’s not the first time that the people of Pakistan have fallen victim to terrorism. Many soldiers have died, many civilians have died. This isn’t some theoretical exercise for the Pakistani people; it’s right there. Not in their backyard, in their front yard,” he said.

Pakistan mourned on Wednesday the killing of 62 people in a terror attack on a police training academy in Quetta late on Monday, the deadliest attack on a security installation in the country’s history.

The US official continued that “We extend our condolences, of course, to the victims and their families, including the police cadets who were embarking on careers of public service.”
