KARACHI: Dispatching a notice along with objection note to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Governor Muhammad Zubair on Friday refused to approve the provincial government’s NAO Repeal bill 2017 which seeks revocation of National Accountability Ordinance 1999, ARY News reported.

The governor has expressed his concerns on nullifying NAO 1999 as what he termed it against the public interest, sources at Governor House said.

Moreover, Muhammad Zubair insisted that elimination of corruption is due responsibility of the government.

It is to be mentioned here that Sindh Assembly on July 3 passed the anti-National Accountability Bureau (NAB) bill.

The Sindh government asserted that it’s the responsibility of the provincial government to take action against corruption and any action undertaken by the federation with regard to anti-corruption will be deemed unconstitutional.

The bill states that eradicating corruption in the province is the sole responsibility of the provincial government rather than the federal government by curtailing the NAB’s powers.

On June 30, the Sindh cabinet had given its approval to repeal the NAB ordinance in the province.

The approval was given in a high-level meeting chaired by Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House after being briefed on the subject by Advocate General for Sindh Zamir Ghumro.
