BUDDHIST MONASTERY CAVES, Aurangabad

hey are the caves 19 and 20 at Ajanta and they stand as an outstanding specimen of Buddhist rock cut architecture. The façade and walls of these caves are exquisitely decorated with the figures of Buddha and also various attractive figures and designs.

The Ajanta Caves are situated north of Aurangabad, a district headquarters in Maharashtra. These rock cut caves are famous for their murals and are the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting. The caves at Ajanta are excavated in the semi-circular scarp of a steep rock about 76 m high.

Ajanta group of caves are enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
