I'm 35 today - half-way through -
My three score years and ten.
Time to sit back -
To look back - to take stock,
Wonder where all the years have gone.
What have I achieved - what have I learned?
I should have reached maturity -
Or so society tells me,
Middle-aged respectability -
A secure job - married with 2.4 children
Semi-detached house - Mondeo estate in the drive.

Yet here I am - still single
Not much money in the bank.
Marriage and children -
Only a remote possibility- yet I am free
To lead my life - as I please -
Not as others think I should.
I still have my problems - don't we all?
But I have what matters -
Peace of mind and an open mind -
Freedom to overcome past hurts.
Vision to shape the future -
Power to forget the past.
The first 35 years were just practice -
A learning curve - to make the future -
Fucking awesome.
