The illusion of freedom
things like
air conditioning and cable T.V.
hold us captive willingly
commercials countdown seconds of our lives
as we stare transfixed so tranquilly

What would our forefathers think
If they saw the way
our brains still shrink
or the smile on our youths faces
if there is enough mt. dew to drink

there are still mountains to climb
and land to be discovered
as we lie around and waste away
on our couches undercover
