HH Younus AlGohar issues a statement after the horrendous attacks in Brussels on March 22, 2016.

Main points:
- There were serious security lapses which allowed terrorists to bring ammunition into the airport. Belgium had already been informed of an imminent attack in Brussels, but the authorities said they could not act until the incident took place.

- The fact that one of the attacks took place in an airport is worrying. It means that travel will become more difficult and people will now be under fear.

- In modern times, religions have become monsters. However, it is not possible to ban any religion, including Islam. The driving force behind terrorist activities is an ideology of hatred and death, which must be stopped. Governments should ask Muslim clerics to hold conferences and explain that what ISIS is doing is wrong in light of the Quran and Prophetic Traditions. When the youth see this, the ideology of death and hatred will be defeated.

- The way the world leaders are waging a war against ISIS is not even half-heartedly. Everything has become politicised. After influx of Syrian refugees into Europe, we don't know how vulnerable we are to any potential terrorist attack.

- Belgian authorities, having known the addresses of terrorists in their country, should have arrested them. The USA and UK implemented antiterrorist legislations after 9/11 which would allow them to arrest someone on suspicion of being a terrorist; France and Belgium should do the same.
