Andy and his half-sister Piper are dealt a “fresh start” in the form of foster care at Laura’s secluded home. Sounds responsible. Feels like walking into a locked room with the key already missing.

Laura’s house is quiet in that unsettling way, and Ollie, who’s been there longer, basically provides the atmosphere on his own. He doesn’t talk. He just watches Andy and Piper like they’re the next thing on a checklist. It’s less “new family” and more “situation assessment.”

Then the truth creeps in. Laura isn’t just caring for them. She’s grieving, and she’s got a ritual in mind that’s meant to bring her daughter back from wherever that idea belongs. And in this movie, “for the greater good” is not a phrase anyone should whisper out loud. „Bring Her Back“ turns grief into a horror mechanism, and it doesn’t bother to be polite about it.

Andy und seine Halbschwester Piper landen nach dem Tod ihres Vaters bei Laura. Klingt erstmal nach Neustart. Ist aber eher der Einstieg in den Albtraum. Lauras Landhaus liegt schön abgeschieden, zu schön. Besonders Ollie macht die Stimmung dicht. Er lebt schon länger dort, sagt keinen Ton und starrt die beiden nur an. Nicht kindgerecht, eher wie eine Warnleuchte mit Augen.

Und dann merkt man schnell: Laura will nicht einfach nur Kinder versorgen. Sie trauert. Und statt damit erwachsen umzugehen, plant sie ein richtig finsteres Ritual, um ihre Tochter zurückzuholen. Welche Mittel ihr dabei recht sind, ist dann auch schon die halbe Antwort. „Bring Her Back“ macht aus Trauma einen Horrorplan, und ja, der wird konsequent ungemütlich.
