Regret had set them miles apart.
the past, a present curse
had etched itself upon the heart
insipient, - perverse.

And love could not dissolve the space
that stood, their lives between
Nor hope resolve, nor time erase
the years that intervened.

and so it goes, the love they shared
though not unraveled yet,
succumbed, for what one hadn't dared;
and one could not forget.
